About Control Room Press
Control Room Press is an independent publisher of practical books for people who make music.
We started with a simple frustration: recording sessions generate a huge amount of detail — signal chains, plug-in settings, microphone positions, mix notes — and almost none of it survives past the session itself. Hard drives fail, DAW projects get reorganised, and the reasoning behind a decision is gone by the time you need it again. Digital notes get lost in the same mess they're meant to organise.
So we made a book instead.
The Signal Ledger, our first title, is a Studio & DAW Recording Log Book built specifically for that problem: a physical, durable place to record what actually happened in a session, so it's still there months or years later. It's designed the way a working producer would design it — because that's exactly how it came about.
We're not interested in publishing as many titles as possible. Control Room Press exists to make a small number of things properly: well-designed, well-printed, genuinely useful reference books for musicians, producers, engineers and studio owners. If a book doesn't solve a real problem for people who make records, we won't publish it.
That means paying attention to details a bigger publisher might skip — paper that survives being open on a desk next to a coffee, layouts that make sense at 2am mid-session, and a format built around how studio work actually happens rather than how a notebook is usually designed.
The Signal Ledger is available now. More titles are in development, each held to the same standard: practical first, decorative never.
Control Room Press is based in London.
